Petty Officer 1st Class Savon Hunte, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, recently received a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for being named the 2024 Recruiter of the Year (ROY) for Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Great Lakes.

“ROY” recognizes the nation’s top Navy recruiters for their talent acquisition expertise, positive impact on local communities and upholding the highest of Navy values.

Hunte, a 2016 Bay Port High School graduate, joined the Navy seven and half years ago, and, in addition to this award, was also named Junior Sailor of the Year for NTAG Great Lakes in 2023.

“These awards show me that my hard work and dedication in my community and on myself as a sailor have been noticed not only by my leadership but by my community as well,” said Hunte. “I think it’s important to always keep a goal in mind and to surround yourself with those you think can help guide you to achieve those goals. I am beyond proud to have received these awards but now I am more excited to help mold future sailors and Recruiters of the Years.”

NTAG Great Lakes leverages an inspirational culture that informs, attracts, influences and hires the highest quality candidates from America’s diverse talent pool. This goal ensures the success of America’s Navy and establishes the foundation for sailors to thrive in a life-changing experience.

NTAGs are recruiting districts that make up the Navy Recruiting Region. There are 26 NTAGs across the United States, as well as a Navy Recruiting Reserved command and Recruiting School.

NTAG Great Lakes covers the following areas: Northern Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
