January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month: Green Bay & Awaken Take Action

In January, we observe National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about human trafficking and equip communities to combat this pervasive crime. As the United States observes this month, organizations across the country, including here in Brown County, are stepping up to educate and engage citizens in the fight against human trafficking.

Awaken Leads Local Efforts in Brown County

Awaken, a Brown County-based organization, is at the forefront of local efforts to combat sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. Through educational programs, community outreach, and volunteer opportunities, Awaken empowers area residents to play an active role in preventing human trafficking and supporting survivors.

Awaken has a series of events planned to engage and inform the community during January and beyond:

Thursday, January 23rd: “At What Cost” Showing & Panel Discussion
6 PM Panel Discussion, 7 PM Documentary Screening
De Pere Cinema, 417 George Street, De Pere, WI 54115

Join Awaken for an evening of education and reflection with the screening of the documentary At What Cost. The event will feature a panel discussion with human trafficking specialists and local law enforcement experts, offering insights into the societal impacts of sex trafficking. Wednesday, January 29th: Virtual Community Informational
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM; Virtual  

This informational session provides an opportunity to learn more about Awaken’s mission, vision, and community impact. Participants will discover ways to join the fight against commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking. RSVP by emailing infowi@awakenjustice.org.

Saturday, February 1st: Volunteer Onboarding
 11 AM – 12 PM @ Awaken Center

Awaken’s Volunteer Onboarding session offers a hands-on opportunity to join their mission. Participants will receive training tailored to their areas of interest and be equipped to contribute as part of Awaken’s volunteer teams. RSVP by emailing infowi@awakenjustice.org.

National Human Trafficking Prevention Month provides an opportunity for everyone to get involved. Whether by attending events, volunteering, or spreading awareness, Green Bay residents can join the fight against trafficking.

Human trafficking affects over 27.6 million people worldwide, including individuals in the United States. Organizations like Awaken work tirelessly to combat this crime by educating communities, supporting survivors, and advocating for change.
