Why This Election Matters
Local elections often have the most direct impact on our daily lives, yet they tend to have the lowest voter turnout. The decisions made by school board members and the state superintendent affect everything from student education to property taxes and home values. Here’s why your vote is critical:
State Superintendent of Public Instruction: The State Superintendent of Public Instruction is the top education official in Wisconsin, responsible for overseeing the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). A strong leader in this position can advocate for policies that enhance education while being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. This role affects:
Curriculum Standards – Ensuring students receive a quality education that prepares them for future careers and higher education.
School Funding – Managing how state and federal funds are distributed to school districts, impacting resources available to students and teachers.
Teacher Licensing & Support – Setting policies on teacher qualifications and professional development.
Accountability & Performance – Overseeing statewide assessments and working to improve school performance.
Local School Board Elections — Shaping Our Schools: In the Green Bay Area Public School District, seven candidates are competing for six spots on the April ballot. Ultimately, only three will be elected in the general election. These school board members will make decisions that affect:
Education Quality – Setting policies on curriculum, teacher hiring, and student programs.
School Budgets & Taxes – Determining how taxpayer money is spent on school improvements, salaries, and educational resources.
Facilities & Infrastructure – Approving plans for school repairs, upgrades, and potential new construction.
Even if you don’t have children in the school district, these decisions impact property values, workforce development, and community growth.
Your Vote Makes a Difference
School board races and state superintendent elections are often decided by very small margins. Your participation ensures that leaders making these important decisions reflect the priorities of our community.
